In the heart of East Westphalia, Germany, pronorm Einbauküchen GmbH manufactures hundreds of thousands of kitchen cabinets each year, serving a diverse market with a wide range of product lines. With 320 employees and an extensive production process, the company relies on a robust ERP system to manage operations efficiently.
However, with SAP discontinuing support for its existing ERP system by 2027, pronorm needed to transition to SAP S/4HANA to automate manual accounting tasks, improve internal controls, and consolidate data for streamlined reporting. The complexity of integrating various systems across the value chain posed a significant challenge.
To navigate this transformation, pronorm enlisted the expertise of Axians. Together, they opted for a Greenfield approach, implementing a new system from scratch and selectively migrating essential data. This strategy enabled:
- A thorough process redesign to align with SAP standards.
- Centralization of business partner master data, eliminating redundancies.
- Adoption of new platform innovations, ensuring a future-ready system.
The project unfolded in three phases:
- System setup and financial process redesign: Establishing the S/4HANA system with necessary interfaces and overhauling financial processes.
- Integration of industry-specific software: Connecting specialized kitchen manufacturing software to the sales module, enhancing data availability for accounting and controlling.
- Material management and logistics integration: Linking production control systems and warehouse management software to the materials management module, enabling comprehensive material tracking and evaluation.
Reflecting on the partnership, Malte Westerbarkey, Head of Accounting at pronorm, remarked
Axians supported us comprehensively in terms of S/4HANA and supported us throughout the project with specific specialist knowledge and a high level of implementation know-how.”
With this transformation, pronorm now operates on standardized S/4HANA processes across its core financial applications. The Greenfield approach has not only streamlined its ERP system but also established a solid foundation for long-term maintenance and future digital enhancements, including a modern UI strategy with FIORI.
