The telecom infrastructure sector aims to achieve zero carbon emissions by 2050. As a key player in the telecoms sector, Axians is introducing several pylons that primarily facilitate the deployment of mobile networks but have also strongly decreased their carbon footprint.

These new pylons include the All In One (AIO) tower, the GreenTower1, and the Nedea tower, with the latter two reducing carbon emissions up to 50% compared to conventional technologies.

As for the AIO tower, it has proven to be effective as it does not require anchoring nor earthwork and reduces by a factor of seven carbon emissions compared with traditional permanent sites. For a deeper understanding of each mast, the unique features and specifications of these three products are examined below.

All In One (AIO) Tower

The All In One (AIO) Tower, with a small footprint of less than 5m², can reach heights of 12 to 25m within half a day. This fast and eco-friendly solution for setting up telecom towers aimed at addressing damaged infrastructure and temporary mobile coverage needs. The AIO Tower can also adjust to a 7% slope, without any civil work or earthwork, making it suitable for slightly sloped terrain.”

The solution, based on reusable low-carbon concrete weights, offers environmental benefits and reduces carbon impact significantly compared to traditional methods.

The All In One Tower is a solution that can be completely reused and has no impact on nature because it doesn’t need a foundation. It can be easily installed in a car park or in a natural site. And when the infrastructure is removed, there are no holes to fill. It’s exactly as it was before. So, it’s another way of offering telecom sites that respect the environment and have a low carbon impact.

Deployed successfully in various scenarios, including disaster recovery, network congestion prevention, and white spots, the AIO Tower provides rapid coverage and saves time and money.

To better align with the market and its customers, Axians offers the AIO as a service through a rental model. Instead of purchasing a product, the customer buys a service because they only need a tower service for a specific period. With this, Axians has also adapted its offering to provide “Tower as a Service.

GreenTower1

The GreenTower1 is a telecommunication tower, built with 100% renewable energy, innovated with steel design which has reduced the weight by up to 50%, and employed 50% recycled materials in manufacturing. It is significantly lighter than standard poles, featuring simplified installation and deconstruction processes.

The weight differential holds significance in various aspects, impacting production, handling, transportation, installation, and the engineering of the foundation for the item. Reducing the amount of steel also means reducing the carbon footprint.

Its adaptability for diverse locations includes pre-mounting and transportation by helicopter. Lifespan varies based on location, with longer durations in low-pollution areas. Overall, GreenTower1 represents a significant advancement in eco-friendly telecommunication infrastructure, meeting modern demands while minimizing environmental impact.

Nedea Towers

Nedea represents a groundbreaking series of lattice towers, distinguished by its structure composed of multiple bars. This design aligns seamlessly with the prevalent tower style found across France, making it an ideal solution for the French market and beyond.

One of Nedea’s key features lies in its utilization of low-carbon concrete foundations. This innovative approach plays a crucial role in reducing CO₂ emissions typically associated with concrete usage. Moreover, Nedea goes a step further by incorporating composite materials for tower accessories, further diminishing the carbon footprint.

In terms of design, our R&D department meticulously reimagined the tower’s form to optimize engineering and material usage. This strategic redesign allows for the same level of performance while requiring less steel—a principle akin to the Swiss approach with GreenTower1 but adapted to different tower models and markets.

In essence, Nedea embodies a comprehensive approach to tower construction, integrating advanced engineering, eco-friendly materials, and innovative design principles to significantly mitigate the environmental impact of telecommunications infrastructure.

These three pylons are advancing telecom infrastructure through their quick installation and lower carbon emissions. The All-In-One tower excels in swift setup and as a service model, while GreenTower1 and Nedea are optimized by design for long term installations to minimize environmental effects.
